Subspecies Spotlight #04: Otocolobus manul ferruginea
Photo source: [x]O. m. ferruginea, also known as the Persian Pallas cat, is an endangered subspecies of Pallas cat inhabiting Turkmenistan, northern Iran, south-western Turkestan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In 2009, Afghanistan banned all hunting and trading fur or other parts of this cat. They are most commonly known for their unique, reddish coat.
There are three subspecies of Pallas Cats. Otocolobus manul ferruginea is said to have a distinct reddish coat and inhabits parts of Iran, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. These photos come from the Iran Environment and Wildlife Watch (here and here). Subspecies or not, I think they are gorgeous!
