bigcatawareness:

(Reference to the facility that dapartygrind was at in Australia)

It is the end all for me.  Because when staff are allowed to interact directly with large cats, it shows an incredible misunderstanding of the animals being cared for and a level of irresponsibility that has no place with wild animals, let alone apex predators.  It presents an image of the cats to the public where they are perceived as “large housecats” and continues the subculture of people that want to cuddle or even own big cats.  The decision to have direct contact with an adult lion or tiger is not “just the person’s decision” as people like to quickly point out.  They are also making the decision for the cat on whether or not they get to live if an attack takes place.  A lion that kills its handler is going to either be destroyed our put into isolation.  And that is never a situation we should be putting these animals in.

A place that also allows contact with cubs opens up a situation where we can get at risk animals sick(because if a 4 week old cub is spending all day in the hands of strangers, they are certainly not nursing off their mothers and building their immune systems).  No one ever asks why the cubs aren’t with their mothers.  And season after season of new cubs being presented for interaction, the excuse would always remain the same: “the mom rejected them.”  An easy out that makes people feel better about providing “TLC” to poor abandoned cubs that were probably taken from their mothers at birth for such encounters.  Any place that allows cub petting, no matter how good they seem or how much they condemn “shady” petting schemes is simply creating a situation where “WE are the only good ones so spend your money here!”  It’s misleading, dishonest, and regardless of what they say still fuels an industry.  People that pet cubs at a “nice” place will think that cub petting is acceptable anywhere that can maintain a good outward appearance. “I pet a tiger at this one place and it seemed okay, so we should go to the mall this weekend, they’ll have cubs and it’ll support conservation!”

Any place that allows direct contact with lethal wild animals, or exploits the young of said animals is absolutely a bad facility in my book.  They can tout about their conservation ideals as much as they want, but as long as they irresponsibly and dangerously manage their animals in a way that does NOT fall in line with giving the animals the best care, I will not ever consider them a great or excellent facility.

yeah so this is very not cute; petting big cats is abuse. and it would be great if you could like…not glorify it lmao. its even worse that a famous person participated in a cub petting scheme because now a bunch of her fans with as well. learn the truth:

okay I usually don’t comment on these but, yes It can lead to abuse, but in the photo the cub seems heathy and quite happy, so please don’t write on these post with stuff unless you see abuse, thank you

I want you to list out every detail on why this cub seems “quite happy.” Is it smiling?  Laughing?  Or some other anthropomorphized trait you imagine seeing?

I would post links for you to understand why this is wrong, why any form of cub petting is wrong, but judging by your completely ignorant and snarky comment, it’s obvious you didn’t take a single minute to read the very long list kindly provided to you by my friend panthxra.  It is obvious here that you are the odd one out on understanding welfare situations with wild animals.

So i will spell it out for you.  No this cub isn’t healthy.  Why?  Because it is young.  Too young to not be with its mother.  Meaning this cub likely did not have the chance to nurse.  Being robbed of that opportunity means that the cub has a weaker immune system than it should.  The cub is being toted around in an unsterile environment, suckling on the fingers of a woman who probably has not been washing her hands.

What do people do with newborns?  they wash or sterilize their hands before handling them.  Why?  Because they can become sick very easily.

As do these cubs.  They can die.  And often they do.  Is that worth posing in a picture to sell a watch? or some article of clothing?

In closing I say this right back to you.  Please don’t write on these posts until you bother to take the time to educate yourself and not make a fool of yourself.

What Baby Tigers are Forced to do Might Shock You

Warning: Disturbing content.

Look, I know this is the HSUS so take it with a grain of salt if you need, but the footage doesn’t lie.  This is exactly what happens to these cubs and I have seen the same types of footage over and over from other sources on cub petting venues.  This is the norm.  But this is what you’re supporting when you pet cubs. No matter what they say, no matter how nice they look.

The first two pictures have been taken from Instagram user oncaleo’s account. Respectively, the captions say:

i’d love to know why eduardo of #blackjaguarwhitetigeris at #zoofari in mexico visiting ma-tzu’s father and having a good time when the zoo openly admits to allowing visitors to take photographs with the jaguars according to the website. is there a good explanation for this? because it looks really, really bad, and i’m already on the edge with this foundation.

the main page of #zoofari is a huge promotion to take a picture with fari the jaguar. is this a joke? #blackjaguarwhitetiger claims to be against cub petting and exploitation of big cats, so… why is he thanking his friend marcos for letting him see his place [zoofari], with marcos presumably owning it? i have the biggest migraine from this right now. what?

The third picture has been taken from Instagram user blackjaguarwhitetiger. As you can see in the first picture, user oncaleo has taken the picture posted to blackjaguarwhitetiger and put it with a picture from Zoofari’s website. The second picture is a collage of pictures taken at Zoofari.

Evidently, Zoofari in Mexico offers encounters with dangerous predators, such as jaguars, and even cubs. This scheme, known as a cub petting or pay-to-play scheme, is highly popular in unaccredited, irresponsible, exploitative zoos across the globe. Learn why petting big cats is cruelty:

So, clearly, participating in pay-to-play schemes is cruel and abusive, so why did Eduardo from Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation visit Zoofari when he’s, supposedly, against zoos and his foundation is supposed to be rescuing big cats from these types of schemes? He has 1 MILLION followers, and he just showed all of them that this is ok. Read the comments; they are full of people saying they want a pet jaguar and they want to do just what Eduardo is doing. Add this to the list of reasons why Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation will never receive any bit support from me.

Stop ‘Tiger Selfies’ By Chris Pitt, Campaigns Manager at Care for the Wild International

Article first published on The Sloaney website.

Tiger and lion cubs are gorgeous, there’s no doubt about it. It’s hard not to want to pick one up and cuddle it – and thanks to cheaper air travel and a few enterprising people, it’s easier than ever to do exactly that. Tiger ‘temples’ and ‘walking with lions’…

Guys, I know this is a PETA link and you know how I feel about PETA but this is a video from Wildlife in Need. Those of us who have seen the posts know that this is the same setup, and this is most certainly Tim Stark(google him, it’s the same guy). He is giving his “safety” talk to guests about to play with tiger cubs.
I will warn you, there is nothing really graphic other than language but for anyone like me who gets REALLY worked up about big cats, will 100% be pissed off at the end of this video. I was shouting through the whole thing.
Here, Tim Stark gives misinformation about golden tigers and the “need” to breed them, and holds up a months old tiger BY HIS SCRUFF ONLY. I can’t and won’t write much more because I am completely livid and this is the best I can do. Just watch. And understand why I don’t mess around with anyone who tries to defend Wildlife in Need to me. This place is not a zoo. It is not a sanctuary. It is 100% abuse and exploitation.

Jesus christ he holds the tiger in the way that makes it hard for cubs to freaking breathe, then wants to act like the cubs’ anger is unwarranted…

Anonymous said: Genetically speaking, all white tigers and golden tabby tigers are INBRED- there is no sure way to breed two unrelated orange tigers to breed a white tiger (1 in 10,000 chance) which leads to unfortunate health problems for the animals when companies that want MONEY inbreed them and then call them 'majestic' CUB PETTING- especially- is a SCHEME and its literally exploitation and is totally unrelated to conservation. Please educate yourself instead of trying to justify your actions.

sorrybear:

please go away.

Instead of telling this anon to ‘go away’ why don’t you take the time to actually learn this. This kind anon was trying to educate you in the problems of inbred white tigers and why cub petting is wrong. Whatever that facility told you was a lie. A big fat lie. They lied to you for your money; those cubs were not rescued nor are they orphans or whatever else they told you. That white tiger was obviously inbred. After you have your 5 minutes of ‘fun’ you get to go home and pretend like everything is okay but those cubs don’t get to. They’ll be stuck right there, probably in a cage, away from their mother and denied their natural behaviors. So please, research this and you will understand why everyone is so against cub petting. Stop being ignorant and learn.

I strongly suggest you take the time to both read these informative resources as well as watch the video. Please.
