The Story Of The World’s First White Ligers
There are around 1,000 ligers in the world today, but none of them were white until these 4 cubs came along.
They are also the most pointless big cats on the planet because they have no conservation value!
This .. hurts my brain.
White tigers are genetically fucked up already - hybrids between subspecies, inbreed to “fix” the recessive white gene. And then someone figured that breeding a white tiger to a white lion was a good idea??? Ligers (and tigrons) already have known problems due to them being hybrids; their genes don’t work perfectly resulting in various health problems.
And… why would you make a didyouknow post about it without mentioning their downsides?? I can’t imagine the number of people now gushing over this :I
These cubs were born over a year ago and this is literally the only thing I’ve heard about them despite how “awesome and rare” they are. Are they even still alive you think?
It pisses me off so much when popular ‘facts’ blogs go and do shit like this T___T
The Tiger Temple
Thai wildlife protection officers said they found no mistreatment of more than 100 tigers housed at a Buddhist temple that is a popular tourist attraction, though charges have been pressed for keeping rare birds there.
About 50 officials from the wildlife department and local religious affairs office, along with soldiers, made a three-hour inspection on Thursday of the Luangtamahabua Buddhist temple compound, famous for its tame-looking big cats living alongside Buddhist monks. (AP)

I am SO ANGRY.
No mistreatment?! So living in tiny overcrowded cages with no enrichment is not mistreatment? Feeding them a HORRENDOUS diet is not mistreatment? Chaining them to the ground for tourists to harass for hours in the sun isn’t mistreatment? Tearing Cubs from their mothers regularly isn’t mistreatment? Refusing to euthanize or provide proper vet care isn’t mistreatment? Hitting cats and spraying urine in their face for “misbehaving” isn’t mistreatment? Putting the funds for their care second to the funds of the temple isn’t mistreatment?
This is such fucking bullshit and I am BEYOND livid. Part of me knew this was too good to be true but my god, how can you be so blind?!This is a devastating loss for the Tigers and I am so, SO saddened by this.

Facebook.com/jaguarandtigerJESUS. Look at all these animals crammed in together. Look how much larger that tiger is than the black jaguar(?) underneath him. This kind of interspecies overcrowding is a disaster waiting to happen. And I don’t trust this guy to know when to actually separate these cats and avoid some disaster hybrid.

The King Cheetah is a rare mutation of the cheetah characterized by a distinct fur pattern. It was first noted in what was then Southern Rhodesia (modern-day Zimbabwe) in 1926. Although strangely marked pelts had come from Africa, a live king cheetah was not photographed until 1974 in South Africa’s Kruger National Park. It has been known to exist in Zimbabwe, Botswana and in the northern part of South Africa’s Transvaal province. A recessive gene must be inherited from both parents for this pattern to appear, which is one reason why it is so rare.
While admiring the king cheetah’s unique pattern, we must also realize that humans exploit this - similar to how white tigers are exploited. King cheetahs infrequently occur in the wild, therefore they are inbred in captivity to produce more cheetahs with the same color mutation. This is a good graphic explaining the inbreeding behind color morphs (and yes, it’s about white lions - but the same method is used with king cheetahs).
Now, this is especially dangerous for cheetahs. The species as a whole is already inbred and have unusually low genetic variability due to a genetic bottleneck during the last ice age. This causes infertility problems, making conservation efforts for cheetahs difficult. So, further inbreeding to produce king cheetahs could have devastating effects.
With that, I ask you to please think twice before glorifying king cheetahs.

A quick reverse image search shows that this is Enzo, he belongs to Michael Jamison and Jackie Smitt. In many of the popular pictures circulating of him he is approximately a year old, he’d be just under 4 years now.
In situations where big cats need to be hand reared by humans contact should be cut off well before age 1, but these two do not work with any facility and bought poor Enzo to be a pet at the pitifully young age of a mere 9 weeks.
Big cats do not make good pets.
By keeping Enzo Jackie and Michael are putting themselves, their 14 dogs, and any guests to their home in danger. Tigers are large and powerful, armed with impressive claws and teeth, play can easily take a turn for the worse and what would become of poor Enzo if he accidentally killed one of his negligent owners? or a guest? Would Jackie and Michael be so keen on keeping him around if he maimed one of their pups?

@caradelevingne: Dream date ❤️
yeah so this is very not cute; petting big cats is abuse. and it would be great if you could like…not glorify it lmao. its even worse that a famous person participated in a cub petting scheme because now a bunch of her fans with as well. learn the truth:

okay I usually don’t comment on these but, yes It can lead to abuse, but in the photo the cub seems heathy and quite happy, so please don’t write on these post with stuff unless you see abuse, thank you
I want you to list out every detail on why this cub seems “quite happy.” Is it smiling? Laughing? Or some other anthropomorphized trait you imagine seeing?
I would post links for you to understand why this is wrong, why any form of cub petting is wrong, but judging by your completely ignorant and snarky comment, it’s obvious you didn’t take a single minute to read the very long list kindly provided to you by my friend panthxra. It is obvious here that you are the odd one out on understanding welfare situations with wild animals.
So i will spell it out for you. No this cub isn’t healthy. Why? Because it is young. Too young to not be with its mother. Meaning this cub likely did not have the chance to nurse. Being robbed of that opportunity means that the cub has a weaker immune system than it should. The cub is being toted around in an unsterile environment, suckling on the fingers of a woman who probably has not been washing her hands.
What do people do with newborns? they wash or sterilize their hands before handling them. Why? Because they can become sick very easily.
As do these cubs. They can die. And often they do. Is that worth posing in a picture to sell a watch? or some article of clothing?
In closing I say this right back to you. Please don’t write on these posts until you bother to take the time to educate yourself and not make a fool of yourself.
This comes from cee4life on instagram, whom I have just been made aware of by panthxra(through a video I will be posting soon also). I sometimes think I am past the point of being shocked. But then I see things like this.
This tiger….he looks close to death or drugged out of his mind. I know I often refer to the incredibly poor diet as a reason for the lethargy, but this is a different level. This is a cat that is so far from itself that there is no way it is just diet.
There is no logical way or reason people could defend this place after seeing things like this. Seeing such blatant abuse. Blatant cruelty.
And Tiger Temple’s response on Instagram when being asked about this?
he is not being drugged, we in no way sedate any of our tigers. This is an unfortunate media spin. […]
there was a lot of distractions making him somewhat excitable, and the guest continue to want the photo, placing the towel over his eyes preventing him from see what was going on and this[sic] allowing the photo. This is very easy for us to prove as it is very easy to take many videos of this tiger doing the head in lap photo without the towel.

Warning: Disturbing content.
Look, I know this is the HSUS so take it with a grain of salt if you need, but the footage doesn’t lie. This is exactly what happens to these cubs and I have seen the same types of footage over and over from other sources on cub petting venues. This is the norm. But this is what you’re supporting when you pet cubs. No matter what they say, no matter how nice they look.
notactuallycuteAHHHH
this doesn’t look like a domestic? Does it belong to a rescue, or is this not cute? This is a caracal kitten and I do not think any reputable rescue would bring one in their home and doll it up like this. I believe I can safely say this is not actually cute, but does anyone have a source for this?

notactuallycute I found the source. It appears to be a Russian woman who owns several types of exotic cats in her own home, including a serval, this caracal, and what I believe to be a type of jungle cat? She is likely a breeder, and there are photos of the cats interacting directly with dogs (large and small dogs). I also believe there are Savannahs and Chausie cats (servals and jungle cats bred with domestic cats). I would lean towards saying this is not actually cute.
bigcatawareness Any input?
Yes, she’s a breeder. She runs a place called “L’Unicorne Cattery”. She also has a 500px account.
Rescuing some small, non-endangered species of wild cat is OK, as long as the animal is provided with adequate care (outdoor enclosure, raw diet, etc); but this is obviously not the case.
We must also realize that most people cannot handle the unique care needs that these wild animals have. Most people buy from breeders, feed the animal kibble, don’t provide an outdoor enclosure, expect it to act like a domestic cat when it’s a wild animal.
This post having so many notes is very worrying. 285,717 notes worth of people who have seen this and think that wild cat ownership is “cute”.
Also, all the pictures of hybrids is alarming. The process of breeding hybrids is very dangerous for the domestic cat involved, not to mention that these breeds shouldn’t even exist in the first place.
All together, I’m going to go ahead and say that this is not actually cute. This is blatant animal exploitation.

The first two pictures have been taken from Instagram user oncaleo’s account. Respectively, the captions say:
i’d love to know why eduardo of #blackjaguarwhitetigeris at #zoofari in mexico visiting ma-tzu’s father and having a good time when the zoo openly admits to allowing visitors to take photographs with the jaguars according to the website. is there a good explanation for this? because it looks really, really bad, and i’m already on the edge with this foundation.
the main page of #zoofari is a huge promotion to take a picture with fari the jaguar. is this a joke? #blackjaguarwhitetiger claims to be against cub petting and exploitation of big cats, so… why is he thanking his friend marcos for letting him see his place [zoofari], with marcos presumably owning it? i have the biggest migraine from this right now. what?
The third picture has been taken from Instagram user blackjaguarwhitetiger. As you can see in the first picture, user oncaleo has taken the picture posted to blackjaguarwhitetiger and put it with a picture from Zoofari’s website. The second picture is a collage of pictures taken at Zoofari.
Evidently, Zoofari in Mexico offers encounters with dangerous predators, such as jaguars, and even cubs. This scheme, known as a cub petting or pay-to-play scheme, is highly popular in unaccredited, irresponsible, exploitative zoos across the globe. Learn why petting big cats is cruelty:

So, clearly, participating in pay-to-play schemes is cruel and abusive, so why did Eduardo from Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation visit Zoofari when he’s, supposedly, against zoos and his foundation is supposed to be rescuing big cats from these types of schemes? He has 1 MILLION followers, and he just showed all of them that this is ok. Read the comments; they are full of people saying they want a pet jaguar and they want to do just what Eduardo is doing. Add this to the list of reasons why Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation will never receive any bit support from me.
